June 13 – Proverbs 8
Blessed are they who listen to God.
Here we are again with the blessing of wisdom. This blessing must be pretty important! In this week’s readings, we are called sons or children. If we are called His children, we must listen to Him. Heed what God tells us, and we will be blessed.
I love the imagery found here in this chapter. Wisdom does not hide, nor seek dark corners; it is not seduction and stealthy; it is loved and in plain sight. It is in the highest places, at crossroads (verse 2), and at the town’s front gates (verse 3). Wisdom was at the very beginning (verse 22). Wisdom was first, just as God was.
Now, back to verse 34. Blessed is he who waits. Where does he wait? At the door, waiting at the gates. Why is he waiting there? Because that is where wisdom is found! When God created humans, wisdom too rejoiced! Why? Because of all creation we are the ones who can know and cherish wisdom, and thus Truth.
How is wisdom described here in chapter 8? Take a moment to make mental or physical notes with pen and paper. Wisdom is noble, truthful, righteous, and honest. Discrete. All characteristics of God, or how we should live. Right? God will bless us when we live a life pleasing to Him.
Does that mean we will be free from trials and hardship? No, no, it does not. Remember, those are fleeting, yet His blessings are forever.
In verses 32-34, wisdom is now talking to us. Wisdom has been described and shown what wisdom has done. Not telling us to listen. The world often tells us that we lose out when heeding wisdom. That our personal truth is king and will give us all we need. When, in fact, it is God’s truth that gives us life, meaning, and purpose. Let’s be intentional when seeking God’s wisdom. Let’s be willing to be inconvenienced for His wisdom.
My Verse: “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. ” Proverbs 8:32-34
My Response: God I praise You, for even if my ears are unable to hear You or my brain unable to process Your words… I can still receive Your message. For You know me. You know how I can receive Your word every single time You speak. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit who intercedes, who translates and relays what I cannot comprehend. I am sooooo blessed!

My verse: Proverbs 8:34 “Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home.”
My response: To diligently seek wisdom brings … JOY! Blessing. <3 Father, keep me from foolish choices. Help me to listen, to watch, to wait for Your wisdom in all my actions. Teach me to hate evil (vs 13) and to love Your truths. Thank You that following You leads to joy. 😊
