June 11 – Psalm 128
You shall be blessed.
The word ‘shall’ in these verses is such an immovable word. In military terms, that word, when used, means there is no other option, no option to not do it. If I, a Sailor, shall dewax a ship’s length of passageway in the middle of the night after an 18 hour work day, then there will be no way that I would NOT be not doing it. There could be nothing that keeps me from completing that task. It is a directive, an intention, a command. In legal terms, it is a word of imperative command, and it originates in mandatory land with no digression.
So, when it is used here in verse 2, ‘you shall be blessed’… in the context that we now know what ‘shall’ means, we can have no doubt that God blesses His children. And with blessings comes peace because they are promises fulfilled. There is no other option but to bless us. There is nothing that takes those blessings away. Nothing that strips us naked of those blessings. Nothing. It shall be done. Because said it is so. He is absolute, and so are His promises to us.
These blessings come on the heels of the ones who fear Him reverently. They are the ones who live their lives that are a pleasing aroma to Him. These are the ones who walk in His ways because we desire to and not because of what we think we can get. He calls us to live a life of
intention, a life that will be immovable in its love of God. A life that does not digress but continually strives to move closer and closer to Him.
May we intentionally live our lives in a way that gives Him the glory. May we be immovable in our fear, steadfast in our worship.
My Verse: “Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.” Psalm 128:1
My Response: My God, You instruct me to fear You, to behold You as the God You are. You instruct me to walk in Your way, not so that I might receive blessings, but because You command me to. The blessings You shower me with are just that, gifts of blessings. You see my faith walk, You know my heart. And You call me to do everything according to Your will. Every day, I am to be intentionally giving it all to You because I am reverently fearful of You.

My verse: Psalm 128:6 “May you live to enjoy your grandchildren. May Israel have peace!”
My response: An ancient blessing that still resonates today. Thank You, Lord, for allowing me to live long enough to see my dear grandchildren. And oh, we still – centuries and millennia later – pray for the peace of Israel. How I look forward to and yearn for the day when there will be a new Jerusalem and You Yourself will dwell with us as King!
