March 9 – 1 Peter 2:1-8
Our Jesus, we praise You, for You are Salvation. You are Hope. You are Peace! We love You and want to draw near to You. Be with us as we come together to spend time with You and worship You.
Verse 1 starts with ‘so’, so that means it is a continuation of chapter 1’s call to be holy. Because this Word is the good that was preached, we must do what?
Put away all malice
Put away all deceit
Put away all hypocrisy
Put away all envy
Put away all slander
Why? Because we are called to maturity. And how do we mature? We go to Him. But what does that mean? Come and do what? Abide. Remember John 15:1-17? Abide with Him. Be in constant prayer. Daily meditate on His word. Invite Him into your spaces. These will help us to put away all the icks listed in verse one and move more towards the faith maturity that He calls us to.
We cannot just visit with Jesus once in a while and expect our faith to grow. For then we have room to stumble, to fall short, to miss what He has planned for us. Jesus did not die for us so that He could be with us only sometimes. He did so that He would be with us aaallll of the time! Pretty amazing, right? I’m so thankful for these studies; they help reset my schedule and remind me of how important it is to spend time, quality time, with Him.
My Verse: 1 Peter 2:4, “As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,”
My Response: My Jesus, my Saviour, I’ll love You forever. I praise You because You are Salvation. I praise You because You are the cornerstone; my Spiritual life rests and depends on You. And You are soooo faithful. Thank You for calling my name. Thank You for bringing me to You.

My verse: “So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.”
My response: There’s no leeway here. It’s not … try not to be too unkind, okay? … Nope. Get rid of it. Period. Throw it out. Father, help me to have Peter’s fervor against behavior in my own life that does not reflect that You, my Savior and Lord, are now my guide and compass! May I get rid of all that displeases You and does not further Your kingdom work. Help me to be as ruthless as these words urge me to be.
