March 10 – 1 Peter 2:9-12
Our Jesus, we praise You, for You are Salvation. You are Hope. You are Peace! We love You and want to draw near to You. Be with us as we come together to spend time with You and worship You.
Have you ever had good news and were sworn to secrecy? Such good news that you could burst whilst trying not to share it? The good news of Jesus should have the same excitement and desire to share. But this news is not sworn to secrecy!!! We can tell everyone!
There is so much packed into these four verses that we could camp out here for a week easily. But, we cannot, so I must choose carefully what bit to delve into here. And through the Easter lens, the Spirit guided me to focus on verse 9, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
This tells us exactly what we are to do with the grace God showers upon us. Because we have been covered in mercy, we are to be holy, as a chosen race, ready for priesthood in all that we do and say. We are to proclaim his wonder, share what we know of Him. His grace and mercy is not a secret to harbor and hoard and kept locked in a vault.
I will venture to add it is not just proclaiming what He did on the cross the one time. It is proclaiming what He is revealing to you about Himself every single day. It is one of the many reasons we need to be having quiet time with Jesus every single day. We are to know Him more and more and not grow stagnant.
To proclaim such things, we must put aside what would cause us to stumble in faith and obedience. His death, His calling of our names, our belief in Him should be life changing, life altering and evidently apparent to others around us. Some time today, read 1 Peter 2:1-12 again, and ask God to reveal something of Himself to you. And when He does… share it with someone!
My Verse: 1 Peter 2:10, “Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
My Response: Thank You for reminding me that I am set apart, made holy, expected to live a clean and holy life. Forgive me the moments that I fail in that expectation.

Dear Melissa, this little paragraph made a HUGE AMEN well up in my soul. Thank you, sister: I will venture to add it is not just proclaiming what He did on the cross the one time. It is proclaiming what He is revealing to you about Himself every single day. It is one of the many reasons we need to be having quiet time with Jesus every single day. We are to know Him more and more and not grow stagnant.
My verse: 2 Peter 2:11 “Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.”
My response: Father, help me to remember that this life here on earth is temporary and swiftly passes. Help me to live with eternity in mind, shaking off all desires that prevent me from living for what really matters. The language here is strong. Worldly desires war against my soul – keep it from kingdom work that lasts.
