June 9 – Psalm 112
Blessed are you who fear the Lord and greatly delight in His commandments!
Blessed is the one who is reverent of God. To be in this posture of reverence, we must know who and what God is. Looking back to Psalm 111, David does just that in praiseful worship. He lists what God has done, who He is, what He is capable of, and what He will do. In Psalm 112, he again praises God and delineates what blessing comes because of a reverent fear of God. And that fear comes with knowledge and obedience.
As I write this commentary, my family is in the throes of change, money-wise, job-wise, and health-wise. It is scary, stressful, exhausting, and potentially imploding. And yet, here I sit with
almost absolute calm (albeit with admitted moments of panic) because I know that God has got us no matter what. In our waiting, I need to live my life for Him according to His will. All He asks of me is to love Him and love others. He will take care of the rest. To have the
relevant kind of fear that beholden us to keep it. Love God, love others, and let God be God. He will do His thing.
As I read and reread this Psalm over and over, I found myself inputting my husband’s name and praying this blessing over him. And now, I pray it over you. May you be unafraid of bad news, with your heart firm and trusting in the Lord. May your heart be steady and not fearful until you look in triumph over your adversaries.
My Verse: “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!” Psalm 112:1
My Response: God, You are Lord of Lords. The only one who is holy, holy, holy. Lord over me and remind me how big You are. Remind me how great You are. Remind me how small I am in comparison to You.

My verse: Psalm 112:5-6a “Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil …”
My response: Lord, help me to be generous! So much evil results from hoarding selfishly. Generosity is a beautiful way to fight my selfishness. This Psalm says blessings come to the generous – the blessing of a selfless, giving heart is first modeled in Your heart for us! Guide me in giving, please, to be like You. (I noticed verses 4, 5, and 9 all speak highly of generosity. Thank YOU for highlighting that for me, today.)
