June 5 – Psalm 1
Blessed are you who walk in the council of the Lord.
What an opener to the book of Psalms!!!! What an introduction to the Bible as a whole!!!! There is so much to unpack in this very first Psalm. Right off the bat, the very first thing, David tells us exactly what God wants from us. It is the perfect intro to the book of Psalms, is it not? From the get go, he shines a light on what should separate us from those who do not follow God and what end will come of us.
In verse one this morning, three verbs struck me, and I noticed their progression: Walk, stand…sit. We travel a precarious road at times. Sometimes, the ways that don’t bring God glory look pretty good. We probably have all been there. Gone where God tells us not to, and then slowing down a bit “just to have a quick look.” Then we see a spot that is not aaaalll that bad, so we pull over and pop a squat to ‘rest,’ and before we know it, our surroundings look mighty comfortable.
That’s life, right? Missteps happen. But at every step, we should always be asking God if this is the step He is telling us to take. And asking Him if those who are going it with us…. are, in fact, those He wants us to go it with. There are times that, yes, God tells us to stop. Who we stand with matters. And who we sit with matters. We have a choice: either walk with those who are beatitude people or walk with the wicked, sinners, and scoffers. And it is not talking about dayto-day interactions. This is talking about how we are living our lives at its core. How do we know? Because verse three tells us as such. The picture of a tree planted by streams of water that quench the thirst of the new fruits growing. If we are planted by the thirst quenching waters of Jesus, we will yield much fruit. If we are planted anywhere else, we will wither and die, yielding only dust from which we came and then scattered to and fro.
Where are you currently planted?
My Verse: “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the ways of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers” Psalm 1:1
My Response: God, You direct my path and where my feet should go. You provide me with wise counsel and sound truths. And yet, I so often stop and dawdle and dwell in the places You tell me to keep moving. Pluck out what distracts me from You.

My verse: Psalm 1:6 “For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.”
My response: Keep me on the godly path, Lord … please. I want Your watch care and it’s only on that godly path. I need You with me. Thank You that You watch over me. I am not alone as I walk that path marked out for me.
