June 24 – Matthew 5:7; James 2:1-13
Blessed are you who are merciful.
James 2:13 is key, “For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.” If one does not show mercy, it indicates that they have not truly responded to God’s mercy. In Luke 6:36, Jesus tells us to be merciful just as our Father God is merciful. So thus, we must do the same. And it will only be natural, right? Once we receive that mercy, we will just want to show mercy to others because we know what it is like to go along without that mercy.
This is the call to treat everyone as Jesus would treat them; if we do not, then we are living contrary to God’s expectations. It is time to stop and search ourselves to ensure that we are, in fact, showing mercy and compassion. We need to stop and ask the Holy Spirit to highlight those areas we are falling short in and correct our course as needed.
My Verse: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” Matthew 5:7
My Response: Lord, shine a light on areas where I am not merciful and compassionate. And give me the strength and desire to do as You want me to do.

My verse: James 2:13 “There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.”
My response: Father, this reminds me that true followers of You will be known by our love. Keep my heart, Lord, and tend it. Lead me by Your Spirit, so my heart is soft and gentle, merciful and forgiving, wanting even my enemies to turn, repent and be saved. You loved a horrible world and died for us while we were still sinners. Help me to love and show mercy like You! May they know I’m a Christian by my love ….
