June 2 – Genesis 1:24-31
God blesses you.
These first blessings are unique in that God blessed His creation because He created it. It was not in response to anything nature did or didn’t do. It was because of what God did! Everything since creation has been based on His blessing. Our response to that blessing should be what? Do what He commands us to do.
Here, He is specifically speaking to enlarging the family of God, this family who will one day be the church. A family who praises God and honors Him. God blessed us in that we were created in His image. This creation, our creation, was the one through which the Trinity was clearly involved. In us, we could be the only creation to be his representatives, the ones through whom God would do His will. What an honor!
My Verse: “And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28
My Response: God, I praise You for You are Lord of the universe, for You always were. You created us never to live apart from You, to praise You, to worship You, to live for YOU! (Further Reading: John 1:24-31)

My verse: “Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”
My response: First of all, I love that the NLT uses the word “scurry” – it SO describes the chipmunks and squirrels in my own backyard that delight me!
Lord, You did bless us with the joy of children and the wonder of animals, birds, fish, and so much more! What a full and varied and astounding number of living creatures there are to admire and delight in! I love the birds at my feeders, the antics of squirrels, and the smiles of my grandchildren SO much. There is wonder everywhere and I thank You for all You made – for it is very good indeed.
