Let’s remember our theme for this month – Jesus-Focused Living. Hebrews is a book that underscores for us that point. We’ve already been thoroughly told that Jesus is greater than the prophets (Hebrews 1:1) and that He is greater than the angels (Hebrews 1 and 2). Next, we need to be reminded that He is greater than Moses. Indeed, Jesus is greater than any human leader no matter how amazing they might be.

Let’s face it. Moses was pretty amazing. He didn’t even start leading until he was 80 years of age and it’s stunning what he did from age 80 – 120. His birth came at a time when Pharaoh was demanding that all Hebrew boys be killed, yet he was spared and raised in Pharaoh’s court by Pharaoh’s daughter. His own mother hired on as his nurse. After lots of trials and life lessons, Moses led an entire nation of slaves out of Egypt and taught them what God told him for 40 years. Because of Moses, the Israelites had (and we have) the Ten Commandments. Moses gave detailed instructions from God Himself to the people in how to live and how to worship. Their story of escape and survival was miraculous.

However, Moses was God’s servant, and not to be worshiped as a god. He served by obeying God and creating a “house” for God in the wilderness. Jesus is SO Much More. He is the builder Himself. There is no one like Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

How do we apply this? Is this even relevant? It surely is. We aren’t likely to idolize Moses these days and think he’s the best, but we surely can idolize our favorite Christian musician or pastor or speaker or Bible teacher. If we hang on their words more than God’s Word … we are not keeping our focus on Jesus. And that’s where it belongs. It’s good to check ourselves when we read this, making sure that no one – not even a true and good servant of the living God – has been elevated in our minds or hearts. Jesus alone deserves that kind of elevation and rapt attention.

My verse: Hebrews 3:6, “But Christ, as God’s Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.”

My response: Use me, Lord, as You see fit as the Builder. Help me to keep my courage and confidence in You until the end. You are my sure hope and that end of my earthly life will just be the beginning of my best life – with You!

  • Hebrews 3:1 “Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts in Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.”

Lord thank you for so many brothers and sisters. Thank you for choosing me to hear your heavenly calling. I do not understand why some are called and some are not but I do not need to understand your plan. You are perfect and do not make mistakes.
May the Holy Spirit within me help keep my eyes on you Lord. I long to walk with you, to take every thought captive and remember the Truth.

    • I agree. We are SO blessed to belong to the family of God. And I continue to pray for the dear ones in my life who have not yet turned to Him. He is able to reach them even on their dying day! And yes, we can trust Him and His plans.

God, as my husband and I continue our work to downsize, may we remember to thank you for the blessings of the items we are touching and donating to others. I am so grateful for this household you have built, this family you have brought together. i praise you, Lord, and I love you.

    • What a precious time of remembering, you and your husband must be having as you go through your possessions! I hope they bring you joy in the memories and that then – they can bless others! How beautiful that God is a builder – of the world itself and also of our souls – continually refining and teaching us!
