As we continue to read about how Jesus is totally not an angel, one gets the impression that perhaps this was a false teaching at the time. Was it possible that some early followers, now that Jesus was no longer present, just kind of lumped Him in with angels? Well. Let’s not go down that road. Clearly, as we read these verses, Jesus is not an angel. In fact, in a quote from Psalm 45:6-7, it’s really clear that even in the Old Testament, Jesus was referred to as GOD. Wow. Psalm 45:6 starts with “Your throne, O God, endures …”. The Psalmist is speaking to God. Then it gets really mysterious in the very next verse, when we read “ … Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you …”. So. God has anointed … God. I don’t think I fully realized before now that the Psalms have within them the seeds of the doctrine of the trinity that is front and center of our Christian belief that God is seen in three distinct persons: Father, Son, Spirit. But there it is. How cool is that?
So now, let’s ask ourselves. Are we ever guilty of seeing Jesus as “less than” God? We read the stories of how He went to dinner parties, walked in the dirt and dust like everyone else, and was kind to sinners and we see His humanity on display. Even when He heals, walks on water, and raises the dead, He does so in a physical human body. And He was, indeed, fully human. Yet He is and was and forever will be … God the Son … fully divine as well. He’s the One who will judge the multitudes. He’s the One before Whom crowns are laid (Revelation 4:10-11).
Lord Jesus, help us to know You as God in flesh, neither denying Your humanity nor Your divinity! You are bigger and grander than we can possibly grasp, and we worship You, living Son of God.
My verse: Hebrews 1:10, “He also says to the Son, ‘In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands.’”
My response: Such a mystery, Father God! You created the heavens and the earth – You, Triune God – Father, Son, Spirit, eternally present when the earth was formed. I’m reminded of Genesis 1:26 where you say, “Let us make man in our own image.” Even then, Lord Jesus, You were present. Glory!

Hebrews 1:12b “But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
Lord, you will never change. I know you remain the same. I take comfort in this – knowing you won’t one day take my salvation away. You love me alway, not just when it suits you. For now you are with me in Spirit – in this short temporary life. But then I will be with you forever and ever, face to face. Thank you Lord for these blessings.
Oh the yearning that brings … someday face to face! Death has lost its sting for the believer and I am so thankful we have forever with the One who made us, loves us, and saved us!
v.8a: ““Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;” v.12b: “But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
I praise you, Father, that you are unchanging, you are the Alpha and the Omega. In these turbulent times, I take comfort knowing your constancy and that rulers might change, countries might change, things will die off, but you, Father, will always remain.
I remember an old poster I had on my wall as a teenager: He is the stillpoint in a changing world. What a blessing to be His – the One Rock who always was and always will be. Amen!
