June 22 – Matthew 5:5; Galatians 5:16-26

Blessed are you who are gentle.

Blessed are the meek. Meek? Weak? What? No!! Not weak! Meekness does not mean to roll over and be weak; it does not even mean we cannot stand up and fight. It means that in our everyday lives, in the face of adversity, we must be gentle. The Greek word used was ‘praus,’ meaning ‘strength in the Lord.’ It is the same word used in Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” We are to treat others as Jesus would!

Of all creation, we are to be the ones who arm ourselves with the fruits of the Spirit. We are to be counter to how the world behaves and how they respond. It should be evident to everyone around us that we are different. It should be apparent that our strength is found in Jesus, our Lord. That in the face of adversity, we can find rest and comfort in the One who holds us. That same meekness that Jesus displayed, we can too! And the Lord will bless us!

My Verse: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5

My Response: God, You, above all, know that I am far from meek, far from gentle. My heart hardens quickly, and my first response is critical. I need You, Lord, to make me less of me and more like You!

My verse: Galatians 5:25 “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

My response: Blessed are the humble. Help me, Lord, to humble myself under the Spirit’s guidance and direction, daily yielding my desire to control and asking You to lead me instead.
