Advent 2025

Future Glory

Request: Lord, open my eyes as I read your word, my ears to hear, my mind to understand, and my heart to be filled with your love. Amen.

Respond with a prayer to God

There is so much hope in this reading. Everything Paul has written to the Christians in Rome still seems relevant today. I love that about the Bible. As we begin the Advent season, we hope and watch for Jesus to come again. 1 John 3:2 says, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”

It is easy to look at this world we live in and see its physical decay and that it is infected by sin. In this sin-filled world, we wait patiently and hope for his promise to be fulfilled. We wait for the resurrection and redemption of our bodies and the restoration of the earth.

We live in a time when everything is instant, and we don’t want to wait for anything. God has given us the hope of a new heaven and earth, but it is all according to his time, not ours. When I am anxious about the state of things on this earth and the struggles in my life, my prayer is “Come Lord Jesus – NOW!” I certainly need to have more patience and put my confidence in God. And try to always understand and remember that in bad times, I know he has promised to bring good out of bad situations. We are never alone. The Holy Spirit knows our hearts and what our needs are, even when we do not. The Holy Spirit will intercede and pray with us and for us.

My verse: Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

All that happens in our lives will not be pleasant, but God is always with us. It is not in an isolated incident where we should ask for God’s help – we should ask for God’s help in everything. Everything we go through in life is to fulfill his purposes. If we love him and put our trust in him, we can be assured that God is with us.

My Response: Father, I fail in giving thanks and praise to you when all is going well, but I reach out and ask for your help when life is difficult. I ask for your forgiveness and will try to do better. Each day I live with the hope that no matter what is happening in my life or that of my loved ones, you are with us. Amen.

And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

I certainly groan from time to time but this was an interesting perspective – my spirit groaning within me, longing for redemption to be complete on the day if Christ Jesus. That is productive groaning!

I love it. Productive groaning – and absolutely the right thing to long for … the redemption of our bodies. With my poor hearing … I groan for the day when I hear music beautifully again!!

First of all … I am loving the daily commentary. Thanks for the encouragement in waiting and hoping. ❤
My verse: Romans 8:25 “But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.”
My response: Father, thank You for this reminder that I join with all creation waiting in HOPE for Jesus’ return and the restoration of this broken world. And this hope is not a wishful thinking flimsy sort of thing. It’s backed by Your promises which never fail. So help me wait “patiently and confidently” with the sure HOPE of Your coming. Soon!
