Point of View at Ninety-Two

Musings

And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
—Colossians 4:3-6 NIV

I just had a birthday and am now 92 years old. I feel blessed to have had so many years, and I’d love to share with you some of my special memories. I am truly thankful to God for all He has meant to me.

Growing up in England, I am grateful for a loving family, for safety during the years of war and through all the bombing—safe in our little air-raid shelter.

I have been blessed with a kind, Christian husband who showed me his own love for Jesus and taught me to trust in Him as my Savior. One of the hard things was that my husband, Ray, came from America, so it was not easy for me to leave my country, my family, and all my friends and familiar places. I have spent the rest of my life in America. I even learned to drive on the other side of the road. My husband, Ray, tried to teach me himself, but gave up hope and sent me to driving school!

The family God has given us. Oh, we are so thankful for our four children, two girls and two boys. All of them have put their trust in the Lord. That has given us such joy in our lives, as each one continues to trust Him. They have all married Christians.

Ray and I have had our ups and downs, like everyone else, but the Lord has taken us through many years. We celebrated our 70th anniversary last year with a happy gathering of family and friends at a local park beside a lake.

I want to share with you a special moment in my life from over thirty years ago that I still remember. I was on a plane to England. (I visited my family and my country many times over the years.) I had the privilege of sharing my faith with the passenger beside me. He was seated between me and the window—no escape!

When the stewardess came to arrange our meals, he told her his faith did not allow certain foods. Then he told me about his faith, and I listened, and then I asked him if I could share my own faith. Such a joy to share, and he listened. Then I suggested he should buy a Bible to learn more. He replied, “There are no Bibles in my country.” So I pulled a New Testament from my purse, one I had carried around for years, and gave it to him. He accepted it and put it carefully in his briefcase. Such joy in sharing!

I encourage you to share your faith. Sharing Jesus is a great joy. God knows and cares for everyone. Share Jesus. May God bless all who read this. I truly give thanks to the Lord for all He has done. I close this memoir with a prayer taken from the Psalms:

Thank you, Lord, that Your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever (from  Psalm 23:6 (NKJV).
