Forgive me, please, for this extra long reading assignment today. I will keep my commentary brief. This is the final argument concerning the new covenant that came with Jesus, making the old system of sacrifices obsolete. Did you find, reading it all together, that it made good sense? I did. I wanted you to see it all laid out systematically, so you didn’t lose the flow.

Jesus came and ushered in a new way to be made right with God. The perfect way. As Hebrews states over and over, the blood of animals never could permanently take away sins. In fact, the constant sacrificing for every sin meant people were reminded of their sins constantly. It was a precursor only to the better way – God the Son, the perfect Lamb of God, the willingly offered sacrifice that takes away our guilt once for all. Jesus died for all our sins – past, present, future.

He did not do this through a man-made temple or sanctuary. No, He did this through the perfect sanctuary of Heaven. It is finished. We are cleansed if we will but turn to Him in repentance and belief. Incredible grace!

My verse: Hebrews 9:12, “With his own blood – not the blood of goats and calves – he entered The Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever.”

My response: That beautiful word “forever” is such a joy to read! My redemption is permanent and cannot be undone. My salvation is sure, and I can rest in knowing I am Yours, forever and ever. In a world that shifts and changes and at times – shocks – how GOOD it is to belong to You and an unshakeable future! I serve You out of gratitude, not as a bargaining tool. Thank You for this incredible forever gift.
