Hope Eternal

Week 2         He Bore Our Sins

March 8 –  1 Peter 2

Our Jesus, we praise You, for You are Salvation. You are Hope. You are Peace!  We love You and want to draw near to You.  Be with us as we come together to spend time with You and worship You.

Ooooo, we have arrived at one of my most favorite Bible books.  This tiny book is packed with a gazzilion things. If I were only able to possess one book of the Bible for life, 1 Peter would be one of those I’d choose.  The pages of this book in my Bible are so worn they are almost brittle!

And here we are, 1 Peter chapter 2.  Quite honestly, one could probably sit and study it for many months and still need more time with it.  There is just so much to unpack!

But this week, we will focus on being imitators of Christ. He bore our sins, thus He must be perfect and thus, we must be imitators of Him. Peter lays out clear and concise evidence and guidance on just how to do that.  He reminds us that we are not to just put on our new clothes but to become a temple, holy, worthy of housing His Spirit.

When we believe in Him who died and rose from the dead, we are literally a brand new creation.  We cannot go on living in our old ways.  Blinders have been removed and we see ourselves as we are, beloved, saved, cherished, holy… wanted.

Before tomorrow’s quiet time with Jesus, check out your clothing.  Have you slipped into a favorite, comfy old cardigan? One with holes, blemishes, stains, and stinky smells?  Or do you have on a new garment?  One that is clean, crisp, whole, unblemished, and fresh smelling?  Let’s ready ourselves to live holy lives by changing out of that old cardigan again and donning the new garments He has given to us.

My Verse: 1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

My Response: Lord Jesus, You are too marvelous for words.

My verse: 2 Peter 2:21a “For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you …”

My response: There’s no escape clause. If being good is going to make me suffer then I get to be bad? No. You are pure, Lord. And You ask me to be like You even in suffering. Help me to follow You no matter the cost!
