March 4 – Romans 5:12-17

Our Jesus, we praise You, for You are Salvation. You are Hope. You are Peace!  We love You and want to draw near to You.  Be with us as we come together to spend time with You and worship You.

Greetings, Dear Ones,

How are you doing?  Have these bite size passages given you the ability to take some time and really get into them? I know for me, I really enjoyed writing these daily little letters to you in this way.  This morning my reading time was an interesting combo of passages. First, I read through Joshua 1-2, and then our verses for today.  The Spirit’s leading is often surprising; in an odd way, the two readings melded wonderfully together.

The past coupla days we have talked about salvation through grace and the peace we receive through that.  Today, we read about salvation with Paul contrasting Adam and Jesus.  We were reminded of how sin entered the world through Adam and how it infected every single human from then up ‘till today… and then onto the future humans.  Yet, that sin is temporary.  How?  Through grace.  Jesus’ grace is unending; it far outreaches what sin ever could.  Sin can’t even be in the presence of God; it trembles and knows what and who He is.

And even waaaayyy back in Bible times, sin knew it would be defeated.  And as it happens, so did we as a people. Isaiah 53:11, “Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities.”  This speaks to the coming atonement and our knowledge of it, should we have taken notice.

What seemed like an eternity from the times of Isaiah to Jesus’ death was a mere moment to God.  So have faith, dear one. His second coming may seem like an eternity away, but He IS coming.  Each passing generation exclaims, ‘this MUST be near!’  And even now, it feels different, right? It feels close and there is an undercurrent of urgency and expectation.  It is like the Spirit within us is shouting for us to stay awake, be watchful and ready.  For the promised Christ did come, thus He must return once again.

Have you, like Rahab, hung a scarlet cord from your heart window proclaiming God is sovereign, Jesus is the Christ and you are in need of the salvation only He can give?  The grace gift is for you.  You are never too far from His grace.  Run to the Father, sit at the feet of Jesus and enter into grace.

My Verse: Romans 5:17, “For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.”

My Response: Jesus, my Saviour, my Deliverer.  I have hung from my heart the scarlet cord declaring my belief in You and You have passed over me with grace, saving me from death and drawing me to You.  I do not overtly say thank You nearly enough. Here I sit, before you, crying out, “Thank You!”

First of all, Melissa, that imagery of hanging the scarlet cord from my heart window touched me deeply. Yes, may it be so, Lord Jesus! Thank you, Melissa for such a beautiful word picture.

My verse: Romans 5:17a “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many …”

My response: Lord, You stopped me right there. That first sentence gripped me. Help me to take this lesson to heart. Sin corrupts, spreads and oozes poison over multitudes. When I sin, I hurt more people than I realize. I think back to when my children observed my anger and learned bad lessons from it that they’re probably still working through. Help me, Lord, to control my tongue and surrender my heart, so all my ways lead to life for others as well as for myself!
