Week 2 – Peace

And He will be Called…

Request: Lord, open my eyes as I read your word, my ears to hear, my mind to understand, and my heart to be filled with your love.

Respond with a prayer to God

Isaiah’s prophecy of Jesus’ birth and life on earth brings us a message of peace. I found it interesting that he mentions Zebulun and Naphtali, which represent the northern region (Galilee) – the areas where Jesus frequently ministered to the people. There is always a tie between the Old and New Testaments.

During these times of darkness, Isaiah tells of the coming of Jesus – God’s promise to send a light that would shine on everyone living in the shadow of death. This light came as an infant and he was called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

It is hard to find peace when we are going through times of darkness and trouble. Thanks be to God, we have the promise of eternal life and peace with no end!

My verse: Isaiah 9:1a, “Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.”

My response: Oh, the peace we will have on the day when Jesus returns! My dear friend and I have a deep love for Jesus and the word of God. I can see her clapping her hands and bubbling over with happiness at the thought of this peace we have to look forward to. Come, Lord Jesus, Come. Amen.

God, thank you for the light you have given us through Jesus that dispels darkness.

Amen. At this time of year, that darkness is … visible. Haha! I can’t believe how early it is dark right now … and yet. Jesus dispels darkness. Even the dark is as light to Him. I can’t remember where in the Bible that verse is … but I love it.

Isaiah 9:6a “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders …”

Today, Lord, I’m struck by the government of the world resting on Your shoulders. There are so many human rulers trying to manage their countries and it looks to be an impossible task. There are always wars and upsets, times of famine and inequity – it’s not pretty. But when You – Prince of Peace – return, the governing of our world will finally REST. You alone can govern perfectly, and I look eagerly forward to that time of peace and wholeness.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

This morning I think if how light and darkness effect me physically and spiritually. Gid, help me to walk in the light as you are in the light.

Yes. Light is so much more welcoming and darkness can feel oppressive … now you have ME thinking about that. I love it. Thank you.
