God is LOVE
Request: Lord, open my eyes as I read your word, my ears to hear, my mind to understand, and my heart to be filled with your love. Amen.

Respond with a prayer to God
This love… it takes my breath away! I have read these verses over and over and feel inadequate in trying to say more about this love from God. I do know from past readings that this love is agape love, not “I love you like a brother” love. It is unconditional, faithful love. Jesus came into this world to be a living example for us of how to love others. Because of the original sin, we are all sinners and sin cannot exist in God’s presence. In 1 Peter 2:24, it is written, “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” He took our sins upon himself so that he could live in us through the Holy Spirit. When we trust and love God, he is revealed to others through us.
I love hymns, and as I read this, the words of the hymn “They’ll Know We Are Christians By Our Love” played over and over in my head. (If you don’t know it, it is worth listening to.)
My verse: 1 John 412, “No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
I am a fairly quiet person in my love for God and others. I am not an introvert, but am better one on one rather than in a large group. God knows us better than we know ourselves and will put those who need to know him into our lives. It may be a few or it may be many. It is our calling as his disciples to love those who come into our lives and to share the word of God with them. He will provide the strength that we need to do what he asks of us.
My response:
Dear God,
Only you know when I am ready to faithfully love others and to reveal your love to them. Thank you for your love and example through your Son on how to love completely. Let your light shine through me to others. Amen.

My verse: 1 John 4:7 “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.”
Father, thank You for underlining a way for me to test my closeness to You. If I’m loving others well, not allowing envy or bitterness or disdain to replace love for someone, then I am nestled near You. But if envy or bitterness or other sins are present … then I need to run toward You for cleansing and restoration. For You ARE Love. Help me to be so close to You that love is what flows out of me to others.
